UTI in Children: Symptoms and Home Remedies


Some of the home remedies for UTI infection in children include intake of lemon juice, drinking enough water, drinking apple cider vinegar, urinate often, ginger tea, probiotics, juice of amla and turmeric powder, coconut oil, etc.

Children suffer urinary tract infections (UTIs) when bacteria enter the urethra and go up the urinary tract. The most common cause of infection is bacteria that is present in the large intestine and is present in the stools.

What is urinary tract infections?

The urinary tract is that part of the body that makes urine and causes urination. It includes the kidneys and bladder and tubes that link them. When bacteria enter the urinary tract, an infection results.

Symptoms of UTI infection in children

Home Remedies for UTI in Children

  1. Lemon Juice and sugar:

    One of the most effective home remedies for UTI in children is lemon juice. The Vitamin C content of lemon juice is good for health, apart from preventing inflammation and any bacterial action. This will reduce the number of bacteria in the urethra and normalize it. Make a drink of lemon juice and sugar in 200 ml of water and drink it immediately.   2. Consumption of Water:

    It is very important to drink enough water so that all the organs can work normally. Besides, having enough water in the body means the easy removal of toxins from the body. This will reduce the number of bacteria in the urethra and the pain will soon vanish. Ideally, drinking 1.5 litres of water per day works best.

  3. Apple Cider Vinegar:

    Here’s another effective home remedy for UTI for kids. Apple cider vinegar contains several enzymes and minerals that work well to prevent the bacteria in the body and reduce them. Once the bacteria in the urethra come back to normal, your child’s illness will soon go away. To use it, combine apple cider vinegar with 250 ml of warm water and stir it. To get rid of the strong taste of apple cider vinegar, give your child a little honey. Let him drink this solution twice a day, four days a week. The pain will soon go away.

  4. Encourage your child to urinate often:

    One cause of children suffering from UTI is that they don’t urinate often enough. This causes toxins and a large number of bacteria to be held in the body for longer than usual. This leads to problems for the urethra and results in UTI.

  5. Pineapple:

    Pineapple works well as a natural home remedy for UTI as it contains an enzyme called bromelain. This enzyme treats inflammation effectively. This, therefore, helps lower the number of bacteria that cause UTI. To get the benefit of pineapple, children should eat a cup of pineapple or a glass of pineapple juice for UTI relief.

  6. Ginger Tea:

    Ginger’s abundance of antioxidants helps prevent inflammation and stimulates thedigestive system. Ginger plays a significant role in reducing digestion-related illnesses. One way of getting relief from ginger is to add it to your child’s daily meals so that his digestion improves. Or, she could drink a little ginger tea every day. To make ginger tea, put a small piece of ginger in a glass of warm water. Let it steep for about 15 minutes.   7. Probiotics:

    Bacterial resistance that builds up as a result of UTI is remedied by eating probiotics like yogurt. Studies prove that a regular intake of benign bacterial flora is critical in preventing the proliferation of microorganisms that cause the illness. Yogurt and other probiotics support thenormal flora of the body that act as a defense system. By eating fermented foods like yogurt help bring back the required natural flora to the body and restore the bladder with good bacteria.   8. Amla (Indian Gooseberry) and Turmeric Powder:

    Here are two herbs, which, when combined, can be a very good home remedy for UTI. This is because it is rich in Vitamin C. These herbs strengthen the immune system and make it more active. This will purify the urethra and kidney and remove all water from the body. To use it, combine a teaspoon each of Indian gooseberry powder and turmeric powder. Put them in a cup and pour half a litre of water into the cup. Heat the cup of water on medium heat till the water is reduced by half. Leave it to come down to room temperature and then give it to your child to drink. Drink this three times a day in the first week and after three days of treatment, your child will return to normal.

  9. Parsley and Water:

    Parsley can be successfully used to treat UTI in kids as it refreshes the stomach after a meal. This herb raises the quantum of sodium in the body that causes water to rise to be absorbed into thekidney. This will normalizes the activities of the bladder and kidney. To get the benefit of parsley, add 10 gm of it to half litre of water. Stir it and boil it on medium flame for 10 minutes. Now, let your child drink it. Give it to him every day and see results after a week.

  10. Coconut Oil remedy for UTI:

    Yet another effective remedy for UTI, coconut oil is rich in antioxidants that play a critical role in treating this condition. By adding coconut oil to your child’s food, she will urinate easily. By adding a teaspoon of this oil per meal, your child will have enough of coconut oil to help rid her of UTI. You can also apply this oil at the mouth of your child’s urethra to enable easy urination. This should be applied at least 15 minutes before urination.
